Mr. August 2012

Ms. June: Lily

Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: 10 months
Story: Lily came from a breeder in Loma Linda, California. I was in Laguna with my family for a weekend and we decided that it was about time we had a dog in our lives. I’ve always loved dogs but my brother was allergic so I was never able to
have a dog growing up. Lily was picked by my dad because he thought she was the most docile of all the 1 month old puppies there. That didn’t turn out to be the case, but we love her anyways!
Favorite Activity: Going to the park in the morning with her boyfriend Mac the French Bulldog is without a doubt her favorite activity. If I don’t take her she sits by the front door staring at me. Other than that she loves to swim, eat, run, play tug-o-war with both people and dogs and destroy things. She also loves to steal things from customers bags at the store.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Where to begin...She still has a jumping problem but it’s definitely improving. She has always walked herself since she was 9 weeks but now she is starting to walk other dogs. Basically she puts the other dog’s leash in her mouth and just starts pulling on it while the other dog just sits there confused.
Favorite Dog House/Good Dog Food Company product: The cucumber and squash by the front are her favorite toys. As far as treats go, she is a big fan of the Healthy Hares. She goes through a bag a week.
If Lily could talk, what would she say about The Dog House? “This place is my second home. When dad puts on his Dog House shirt I know where I’m going and I go into puppy mode and start running in circles around the house. Ruff ruff! Time to play!”

Ms. May: Tinkerbell

Breed: Chihuahua mix (maybe Corgi, let's just say chihuahua and something chubby)
Age: 4 years
Story: Tink was adopted on the first Friday of July 2010 with her best buddy Minnie Mouse (aka 'Minnie'). We had never owned a small dog before, or two dogs at once, but when mom mom and I met these two characters we knew they would fit in perfectly with our family. Although my dad wasn't too pleased to see the little scraggly pound pups they quickly made paw prints on his heart, too. They haven't quite gotten used to Nosey, the 14 year-old cat. Most of the time when he walks in the room the girls think, "OMG it's a cat!" and chase him out the door. Typical. Tink has always been a protector/dictator over younger Minnie; they wrestle, cuddle, and growl at each other, but are basically inseparable.
Favorite Activity: Napping, cuddling next to someone for a nap, warming up by the fire in the winter and napping, and laying out in the backyard while soaking in the sun and napping. She also loves her greeting job at The Dog House, but makes sure to get a nap or two in between people gushing over her.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: When she's excited for a meal she grabs one specific squeaky toy and won't stop squeaking it until she gets her food. It's as if she's announcing, "Hey! I'm about to get food! Food is coming! Did you hear that I'm about to get food?!" Then she'll impatiently stomp all over your feet - adorable.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product: She's only just started trying all the recipes but has really enjoyed the Healthy Spot (she loves green beans) and Penelope's Grain-Free Feast. She loves the jerky for a treat, but her favorite is the snickerdoodle specialty treat.
If Tink could talk, what would she say about The Dog House? "It's my favorite place to hang out. Come by and pet me sometime! In between naps of course..."
Ms. April: Shima

Breed: Dachsund
Age: 6 yrs
Story: "I was home for Thanksgiving visiting my family and my step sister, a vet tech, brought Shima home from work. Someone had just left her at the vet because she had puppy worms! I didn't realize I would have a new puppy by the end of that day, but she walked in and I had never seen anything as cute and as sweet. I asked if I could just take her home for the night..... we never looked back. She was just three months old and three pounds at the time; such a gorgeous girl. I named her Shima, which means love in the Hopi language. She is such a little love bug!
Favorite Activity: Singing on the top of her lungs with her very load squeaky plastic yellow ball (it used to be covered with fur but she pulled all that off to get to the source of the squeak).
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Throwing her ball at my head when she wants me to play with her. She also immensely enjoys licking as deeply as possible into her favorite peoples' noses.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: Food!!! Trucker's Mutt-loaf and Penelope's Grain-free Feast are her favorites.
If Shima could talk, what would she say about The Good Dog Food Company/The Dog House: "Thank you, thank you so much! Finally, i LOVE my food!!!!
Mr. March: Jack

Breed: Springer/Beagle Mix
Age: Old(ish). :)
Story: Jack “The Party Dog” was rescued in November of ‘06 when he was found tied to a tree and deserted in Ohio by his previous owner. He was in pretty bad shape at first, weighing only 17lb (30lb underweight) with two different parasites and five front teeth that he’d worn down to the pulp trying to chew through the chain that was keeping him captive. That all changed as soon as he came to his new home, though! Since then he’s spent lots of time at vets in both Chicago (his first new city) and Las Vegas, most recently for diabetes. Regardless of any health conditions he’s faced since coming to his new home, one thing that’s never changed is how much he’s been loved and how important a family member he is.
Favorite Activity: SLEEPING!!!!
Most endearing bad habit: Attacking his bed. Seriously. He starts by ramming it with his head, then biting it and wrestling with it, then he barks at it for a bit – just in case there’s every any question on who the boss is.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product: Sugar Buster! It’s GREAT for his diabetes!
If Jack could talk, what would he say about The Dog House and The Good Dog Food Company?: He would thank The Good Dog Food Company for a food that he will actually eat that is both good for him and that he loves – which is rare for any diabetic dog!
Ms. February: Roxy

Breed: Chocolate Lab
Age: 11 years old
Story: My yellow labrador had just recently passed away. I was just looking in Petland and saw all the cute tiny puppies. All the way at the end was a 4 month old skin and bones chocolate lab. There Roxy was with kennel cough, a runny nose, and looking way too skinny. I had to rescue her from Petland! Immediately she started giving me kisses and has been in my family and heart ever since that day.
Favorite Acitivity: Greeting customers at The Dog House. Roxy also loves swimming in the pool and spa.
Most endearing bad habit: Drinking out of the toilet.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product: Everything! Trucker's Cluckers are probably her favorite if she had to choose.
If Roxy could talk, what would she say about The Dog House? The Dog House is my home away from home as I always get plenty of attention. I'm so glad my mom works there! They have yummy treats that are good for me and the customers keep me going even though my arthritis is ailing me!
Mr. January: Winston

Breed: Weimaraner
Age: 11 weeks
Story: I have always loved dogs and had labradors growing up, however, about four years ago I had the pleasure of getting to know and love my first Weimaraner. I became slightly obsessed with the breed, so when it was time to welcome a new addition to our family, I knew that it had to be a Weimaraner. I found a wonderful local breeder who mothered my baby until three weeks ago. He has such a wonderful temperament and is very quick to learn. He slid into our routine with such ease and brings so much joy to the family!
Favorite Activity: Following me around wherever I go, playing with anything, and sleeping.
Most endearing bad habit: Not realizing how sharp his baby teeth are when we play. OUCH they hurt! We are also working on his separation anxiety as he loves to scream and howl when left alone, though he is getting better as the weeks go on.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product: Since he is still a little pup he has not had the pleasure of trying everything yet. But so far he LOVES everything! He goes crazy for the Jilli's Jerky treats and ANY food. Winston can be anywhere in the house or in a dead sleep, but when I open the lid (even when I try to be super quiet) he perks right up and comes running in the kitchen!
If Winston could talk, what would he say about The Dog House?: "Thank goodness my mom's best friend owns the joint because I totally score with the yummy food, fun toys, and chews."
Mr. December: Mac

Breed: French Bulldog
Age: 10.5 months
Story: Mac was adopted into the Beckwith family of five (mom, dad and three boys). while the boys were growing up the question: "can we get a dog?" always received the same half serious response from the dad: "No, we can't get a dog... we can't even take care of ourselves!" Later, two of the boys went away to college... mom was lonely so she posed the question again (this time with tears) and received a new answer: “Ok, yes... because I love you!”
Favorite Activities: Chewing all matter of things, playing with real & imaginary friends, protecting the house against invisible villains and "stealing time"
Most endearing bad habits: Grabbing something that doesn't belong to him to entice a chase. Indicates desire to play by biting on potential playmate's footwear and "asking” to go outside then refusing to go out after the door is opened (clearly a cry for attention)!
Favorite Good Dog Food Company products:
for chewing: the naturally shed deer antlers (especially after soaking them in chicken broth).
for eating: penelope's grain free feast
for wearing: personalized velvet dog collar.
for hygiene: leba III spray so teeth brushing is eliminated!
If Mac could talk, what would he say about Good Dog Food (or The Dog House)?: "I'm officially done with kibble... dad calls me a "Super Food Dog" because I'm eating just like him! (Dad also calls me "Theif of Time" but that is another story for another day!"
Misters November: Brothers Gizmo and Scooter

Breed: Papillon
Story: My husband & I were at a point in our life where we wanted dogs. He was interested in a large dog, but I wanted a toy breed dog. After some discussion, he agreed to a toy breed dog as long as it was not the “yappy type”. So, I did some research and thought Papillons would be great for us, not knowing that dog trainers affectionately call them “Yappy Pappies”. Well, our boys Gizmo & Scooter are quite vocal, but very sweet and such happy dogs.
Favorite Activities: Going to the dog park, going to the dog park & going to the dog park.
Most endearing bad habits: Gizmo has an identity crisis and thinks he is a Border Collie. So, when we go to the dog park, he likes to round up the other dogs. Scooter likes to wake us up in the morning and if we ignore him, he will sit on top of one of us or lightly swat us with his paw until we get out of bed.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company products: Scooter’s tummy is very sensitive so “Tummy Tamer” is a great choice for both of our boys. When I am about to feed them dinner, they get so excited that they can hardly contain themselves. Also, they love the Healthy Hares and Trucker’s Clucker’s jerky.
If Scooter and Gizmo could talk, what would they say about Good Dog Food? Thank you Good Dog Food Company for making food & treats for us dogs that are both healthy & yummy. Woof woof!
Ms. October: Lucy

Breed: Yorkie
Age: 5
Story: My dad bred his yorkies in Mississippi and Lucy was part of the first litter. We brought the Southern gal home to Las Vegas where she adjusted very well -
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Barking whe she hears the word "cat".
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product: Trucker's Cluckers chicken jerky
If Lucy could talk, what would she say about Good Dog Food: "You better make up for getting another dog by giving my my treats!"
Mr. September: Muchacho

Breed: French Bulldog
Age: 3 1/2
Story: He came into our life when our neighbor told us about a puppy in a bad situation. We drove 2 hours to find him living in a small filthy crate in a dark and dirty garage. He was all alone covered in poop and he looked like he was very sick. When we took him out of the crate he kissed us and looked at us with sad eyes. He melted our hearts and we knew all he wanted was a home full of love. That day he would never know neglect again and he would always have a loving home.
Favorite Activity: Eating and playing with the sprinkler
Most endearing bad habit: Begging for food and snoring.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company products: Everything on the menu, especially the bakery treats.
If Muchacho could talk he would say about The Dog House?: "I like it here.. they give me really good treats, they pet me, it has air conditioning, and there is a lot of good food in their freezer, I'm not leaving, why can't I stay longer?!"

Ms. August: Ruby

Breed: terrier mix - chihuahua, terrier, cockapoo
Age: 7
Story: My dog had just run away when my housekeeper's dog had puppies. She gave me Ruby to help with the loss, which it did. I don't know what I would have done without her!
Favorite Activity: It's a toss up between fetch, cuddling, and belly rubs.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Stealing food off the table!
Favorite Good Dog Food Company products: Trucker's Mutt-loaf and Trucker's Cluckers.
If Ruby could talk, what would she say about Good Dog Food?: It makes me happy, and I feel more energized and healthy. THANK YOU!

Summer Fun: Making Travel Enjoyable for You and Your Dog

One of the greatest joys of summertime is the promise of vacation, adventure, and a little out-of-the-ordinary fun. As man's best friend, your dog naturally factors into these fun-filled days, and if leaving your pet behind isn't your cup of tea, then it's time to begin planning. While it's true that traveling with a pet can quickly become a stressful and hectic ordeal, there's no reason that is has to be that way.

Ms. June: Penelope

Breed: English bulldog
Age: 3 yrs
Story: Penelope came to us when a good friend told us a family who had 3 dogs that didn't all get along with each other was looking to give away one of their dogs to a good home. She knew how perfect our house would be for a single dog to be treated like a princess. So a little over one year ago we were lucky enough to get Penelope. In the past year we have really bonded as a family. We love having a dog again, and Penelope is so cute and fun we love taking her everywhere we go. She's had new experiences like camping (she preferred to be in the camper or sitting in our chair and not on the ground; like a princess.) We have driven to Seattle, San Francisco, and to the ocean with her. She visits her old family a lot and enjoys the benefits of 2 families that care for her as if she were their own. We look forward to many more years of fun and travels with her.
Favorite Activity: Sleeping. She is good for a daily walk around the block then out, drooling and snoring until it's time to eat Good dog food again.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Not really a bad habit but she snores like an old man. I'm used to the sound of snoring when I sleep but it has been a new experience for my boyfriend.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company product?: All of them!!! Her namesake Penelope's Grain free feast is her favorite, and she loves treats! She got the best big doggie "Chocolate" bar at the Grand Opening, but the Rabbit and Carrot Jerky and truffles aren't low on her list either. I'm jealous her dinner is more nutritious than mine a lot of the time.
If Penelope could talk what would she say about Good Dog Food? To live is to eat, and I live very well!
New Article! The Amazing Benefits of Medicinal Mushrooms

When we go out to find another ingredient for our food or another supplement for our store, we always look for ingredients that are safe, effective, and of high-quality. Medicinal mushrooms fit perfectly with what The Good Dog Food Company is working to achieve – natural, safe health and wellness for all dogs.
Mushrooms have been used for thousands of years in China for their amazing medicinal properties, and are an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine. Their amazing benefits come largely from the fact that the active compounds in mushrooms are not only highly beneficial, but their simple, natural structure allows them to be more easily digested and absorbed by the body...

Our first retail outlet is now open! We had a great opening weekend and hope everyone will join us for the Grand Opening celebration on May 21, if not before. Thanks to all of our customers and friends who have already stopped by to support us and say hello.
Mr. May: Trucker

Breed: English Bulldog
Age: 3 1/2
Story: I never had dogs growing up but Ian insisted we get a bulldog after we graduated from culinary school. We saw Trucker's face and new he was the one immediately. Little did we know at that point how much he would impact our lives and careers!
Favorite Activity: Anything that allows him to use his powerful jaw. He loves knawing on his Kong and antlers, but especially enjoys swinging from the rope we have hanging from a tree in our front yard.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Trucker has no sense of personal space. He doesn't give a second thought to wedging his way between us in bed every morning and isn't satisfied until his head is lying on my face. He's afraid of the wind and baby birds, and won't spend anytime outside unless it's 75 and sunny. He also has a humping problem, but we're working on that...
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: I wish I could say it was Trucker's Mutt-loaf or Trucker's Cluckers jerky treats, but Trucker will eat anything we put in front of him. He was a terrible test subject when we were trying out new recipes!
If Trucker could talk what would he say about Good Dog Food?: "I'm so glad my mom and dad started cooking for me. I've had none of the health issues most bulldogs do and I've been able to keep my boyish figure." Either that or, "Me likey."
Let Routine Be Your Guide
Dogs are such joyful pets, bringing light and laughter into our homes. It’s sometimes easy for pet owners to forget that their happy, carefree companions are actually quite sensitive and can suffer deeply if there is stress in their lives.
Unlike humans, dogs do not have many coping mechanisms for stress, and events that might not even ruffle our feathers can be earth-shattering to a dog, so it is important to do everything in your power to ensure that your dog feels secure and comfortable in his life...

Holistic Remedies for Seasonal Allergies
10 Poisonous Plants that can Harm Your Dog
Mr. April: Martini
Breed: Jack Russell with perhaps a splash of Min-Pin and a dash of Chiuahua. Who knows!
Age: 13 weeks
Story: Martini was a puppy who needed a home so he was auctioned off at a fundraising event for the Philharmonic. Though I've never had a dog before, I knew when I saw him that I wanted him and only him. Luckily I was the highest bidder! Though I was nervous the first couple of days I had him, he won me over completely. Donating to a local organization I love and giving Martini a home was the best thing I could have done.
Favorite Activity: Martini loves to chase after the toys I throw for him and then shake them ferociously his mouth. Following me everywhere and curling up on my lap when I'm at the computer are also favorite activities.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: Almost making it to the puppy pad to go potty. He's doing great for his age though, or so I'm told.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company products: Trucker's Mutt-loaf and Trucker's Cluckers.
If Martini could talk, what would he say about Good Dog Food?: "I won't eat anything not made by The Good Dog Food Company!"
Mr. March: Steve

Breed: French Bulldog
Age: 3
Story: I wish we could say that we rescued Steve from a cruel fate at the pound, however, we acquired Steve in a somewhat opposite fashion. After months of research about the breed we selected Steve's Pop, Stony, and Mom, Hollaback Girl, both owned by a breeder in Temecula. I suppose Steve was meticulously planned and carried by a surrogate.
Favorite Activity: Lazy-fetch. This is a game where my husband sits on the stair landing and throws a ball or rubber duck into the guest bedroom upstairs. Steve waits at the top of the stairs for his toy to fly over his head and then races to retrieve it. He then races back to the top of the stairs, stops abruptly and pushes the toy down the stairs back to my husband with either his muzzle or paw. The game is considerably shorter with the duck, which doesn't roll as well as the ball. If the duck doesn't make it down the stairs, Steve sits at the top of the stairs and pouts. Game over.
Most endearing bad habit: Steve's favorite spot is in between my legs with a blanket over his head no matter what the temperature is or what position I'm in. If Steve wants his spot, all else be damned including laptops, magazines, etc. Steve just pushes whatever may be in his way out of his way with his muzzle in order to get situated in his spot. He then blurts out annoyed grunts anytime I move and discomfort him.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: Milton's Mints...but really he loves it all!
If he could talk, what would Steve say about Good Dog Food?: Steve does talk. He sits below the kitchen island and bellows raspy howls at the Good Dog Food treats and goodies above until either my husband or I stops what we’re doing and feeds him.
Mr. February: Gordon

Breed: Goldendoodle
Age: 2 1/2
Story: Sir Gordon Snacks A Lot was born in Michigan and came to join his mom in Las Vegas, NV where they lived under the lights of the neon for two years before recently relocating to Denver, CO. He is adjusting well to the cold, thanks to his doodle coat, and now we just have to remind him not to eat the yellow snow! He's got a wicked case of Bieber Fever, loves to chew on Nylabones, play tug-a-war with his Kong Wubba and (attempt to) catch his Good Dog Food frisbee! He is the best companion and has brought so much love to my life.
Favorite Activity: Torturing his big sister cat, Sienna Miller. And now that we live in Colorado, rolling around in the snow with his new friends out here.
Most endearing bad habits: Gordon is FULL of energy, and will pounce on any new dog he meets with his paws in the air. He likes to gently snack on other pup's ears and is constantly giving everyone kisses.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Products: Gordon is a snacker at heart so he loves the Banana Bark-scotti, Jilli's Jerky, Milton's Puppermints (his mom's personal favorite!) and for extra special occasions...Puppy Pot Pie.
If he could talk, what would Gordon say about Good Dog Food?: "This doodle just can't get enough of the Good stuff! I'll roll over, pick a hand, speak....whatever I need to do to get my next fix!!!"
Carob: A Dog's Chocolate
Has your dog ever gotten into chocolate? You may have made an emergency trip to the vet, or just dealt with cleaning up messes for a couple of days, but it probably didn’t deter your dog from wanting more. There are few things that satisfy a chocolate craving, but one comparable and significantly healthier food is carob. It is derived from an evergreen flowering shrub and belongs to the legume family, and both the pods and seeds are edible. Carob can be found in the form of powder or chips, making it easy to substitute carob for chocolate in most recipes. To read all about the health benefits of carob go to our Wordpress blog. http://gooddogfoodco.wordpress.com/
If you are looking for a special treat for your beloved pup this Valentine's day, check out our new carob confections! These boxes of doggy chocolates are delcious, nutritious, and are a great way to say I love you!
Ms. January: Elly

Breed: Boxer mix
Age: 1 year
Story: Elly is a perfect example of dog who offers unconditional love and perpetual optimism. There is no face or snout that she will not greet with a tail wag and a lick, and nothing can ever get her down. Elly always manages to cheer you up and make you laugh when you are down. We were looking for a guard dog and ended up with quite the opposite. She is all about meeting new people and playmates and is always down for a car ride to her next adventure.
Favorite Activity: Playing a game of chase with her best friend Hank.
Most endearing bad habits: She loves everyone way too much and will not hesitate jumping into a stranger’s care in hopes of going on a car ride. She loves to snuggle, but forgets that she is not a five pound lap dog.
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Products: Trucker’s Mutt-loaf, Penelope’s Grain-free Feast, Trucker’s Clucker’s Chicken Jerky and Healthy Hare's Rabbit & Carrot Jerky
If she could talk, what would Elly say about Good Dog Food?: “There is no better feeling than a tummy filled with Good Dog Food, and I try my best to always be on my best behavior in hopes that I will be rewarded with some oh so yummy jerky! I just can’t get enough!”
Destink your Dog!

Merry Christmas, Jillian!

For Christmas Ian got me this blinging new phone case I just had to share a picture of. It is filled with over 3,000 Swarovski crystals that were individually placed to copy the design of our logo. I think I might just be as spoiled as Trucker and Milton!

Chinese Medicine for Dogs (December 15, 2010)
A dog parent is often concerned theymay not be feeding their dog the right food. Finding the right food for yourdog is not just about choosing a food made with high quality, healthy ingredients, however, it is also about choosing a food with ingredients thatare appropriate for your dog, specifically. Dogs' dietary needs can varysomewhat depending on age, breed, or health problems, so it is important tofind the kinds of foods that are optimal for your dog and will assist in maintaining a balanced body.
A brief study of Chinese medicine can be helpful in determining how to find the optimal foods for your dog basedon their specific needs. Chinese medicine maintains that all foods haveenergetic properties and certain foods have the ability to alleviate or exacerbatepersonality traits, disease symptoms, and behaviors. Foods and beings are thereforegrouped into "hot" or "cold" energy categories. Hot natured beings do betterwith foods in the cool or neutral category, and cold natured beings do betterwith foods in the warm or neutral category....

Mr. December: Romeo

Breed: Maltese
Age: 4
Story: "What can I say about Romeo?... his name fits him to a T. He came into my life after a year of being without a pet (and swearing I couldn't go through the loss of another again). I saw him one day and just could not resist that little face. Since then he has brought more joy and love into my life then I could have ever imagined...it is beyond words. He is the sunshine of my life!"
Favorite Activity: Chasing his ball and playing with all his friends in the
neighborhood.
Most Endearing Bad Habit: After Romeo eats he always wants to sit on my lap, give me a kiss, and burp right in my face!
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: Trucker's Mutt-loaf and Penelope's Grain-free Feast. He loves them both equally.
If he could talk, what would Romeo say about Good Dog Food?: "I can't get enough! When is my next meal Mom?"
Coconut: An unassuming super food (November 15, 2010)

As pet owners we are always looking for natural ingredients that may improve our dog’s health. One ingredient we’ve found to be especially beneficial is coconut. Coconut is a fantastic super food that has more health benefits than you might imagine.
Coconut is made up of a beneficial fatty acid chain called Lauric acid (Interestingly, the only other abundant natural source of Lauric acid is human breast milk). When dogs and humans synthesize Lauric acid it produces something called monoglyceride monolaurin. This substance helps fight and destroy viruses (and various pathogenic bacteria), thus protecting your pets from infection and boosting his or her immune system...

Most Endearing Bad Habit: Sleeping on his back on our bed with all fours in the air.

Your Dog's Oral Health
One common misconception amongst pet owners is the belief that one must feed a hard, dry kibble in order to maintain a dog’s dental health. Many vets and large dog food companies encourage pet owners to incorporate a dry kibble into a dog’s daily diet, arguing that kibble will help clean a dog’s teeth. They may not consider, however, that when it comes down to the nutritional value of a food, fresh and raw options are better for a dog’s overall health and often times their oral health. These foods contain little or no preservatives, are made with better ingredients, and are less processed. So, is kibble really the best choice? To find out what you can do to provide your dog with the best oral care, read our latest article on our Wordpress blog: http://gooddogfoodco.wordpress.com Halloween Howl (October 31, 2010)
We had TOO much fun at Halloween Howl! Here are some pictures from the event that benefitted the largest single facility shelter in America, The Animal Foundation:

Our Doggie Buffet was a big hit. It included truffles, bark-scotti, pup-cakes, and puppy pot pies. Some people actually started eating our creations since they looked so appetizing. We got a kick out of that... FYI we are now available for catering dog events and puppy birthday parties :-)

Super-dog loved his take home treats.

Vanessa went as the Mad Hatter. I went as a cat. Ironic, huh?

While The Good Dog Food Company cooked for the dogs, Ian cooked for the people. Yummmm!
Bo and Deemo's Muttster Ball
We had so much fun attending Bo and Deemo's Muttster Ball. It was great seeing all of the dogs dressed up in some of the most adorable costumes. We were so proud of Trucker and Milton who were on their best behavior and did such a great job sporting their costumes, especially Milton who wore a mask! We both came home big winners, taking home some wonderful prizes!

Family, Fur, and Fun Festival, October 2

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Family Fur and Fun Festival! We truly enjoyed seeing all the people that care about their dogs as much as we do! Our Rabbit and Carrot Jerky treats were a huge hit as their alluring scent drew dogs to our booth. The pictures above show the amazing turn-out (left) and our booth modeled by Vanessa, the newest member of the Good Dog Food Company team (right). Some of our festival favorites were the Harley Boys, a group of chihuahuas rocking leather and doggles, and the booth of exotic animals that allowed us to get up close and personal with porcupines, monkeys, and even a wallaby. Overall, the festival was quite a success and we are looking forward to next year!

Family, Fur and Fun Festival
Come join The Good Dog Food Company for a dog friendly day full of fun! The Family, Fur and Fun Festival is tomorrow, October 2 from 10-4 at
October Pet of the Month: Max Oliver
Breed: West Highland White Terrier (Westie)
Age: 10 Months
Story: I quit working over a year ago and our daughter told me at Christmas that I needed a puppy! This stuck in my husband's head, and like a 4-year old, he hounded me about it for weeks! I finally gave in and we went to get Max Oliver on his 8-week birthday. That was it for me...I was hooked the moment I saw him! He has so much personality and I can't even remember what our lives were like without him! I use to think people were crazy for being so attached to their pets, but I'm pretty ridiculous now!
Favorite activity: Playing with all his friends at Doggie Day Camp. He's a Social Butterfly and never meets a stranger (human or animal).
Most endearing bad habit: Max gobbles up all his hidden treats as soon as he hides them every morning! So, inevitably, the following day after breakfast, he hurriedly searches all his hiding places...he panics when he realizes there are no treats and starts to howl at the top of his lungs while continuing to look for the treats he's already eaten! It's hysterical!
Favorite Good Dog Food products: Penelope’s Grain-free Feast for breakfast & dinner; Trucker's Clucker's Chicken Jerky and Healthy Hare's Rabbit & Carrot Jerky anytime he can have then...Max Oliver never gets tired of his treats!
If Max Oliver could speak, what would he say about Good Dog Food?: "Mommy, thank you so much for finding Jillian and Ian...I am totally obsessed with my Penelope's Grain-free Feast, and let's not even begin to talk about my Chicken and Rabbit Jerky treats! It was such a bummer being sick all the time before you found The Good Dog Food Company. I hated missing Doggie Day Camp because I had allergies or colitis, and when I was on antibiotics I had to eat that nasty food from the vet. My life has changed drastically...I'm healthy and happy and I haven't been to the doctor in over 4-months! Woohoo! Let's Celebrate! Where are my treats?"
September Pet of the Month: Katie

Breed: Maltese
Age: 4
Story: “I was looking through a magazine one day and on the cover was this adorable little white puppy. I thought to myself...hmmm maybe this is the breed for me! I did a little research because I need a hypoallergenic dog as well as one with an energy level that matches mine. So I found a breeder and picked her out of the litter as a birthday gift!”
Favorite Activity: Katie loves going on trips, every time I get out a bag or suitcase she hops right in ready to go!Most endearing bad habit: She is very mischievous...as soon as I leave the house she opens the cabinet door under the sink (the one with the child proof lock) and gets into the trash!
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: Penelope’s Grain-free Feast
If Katie could speak, what would she say about Good Dog Food?: "Thanks momma for switching my food!!!"
June Pet of the Month: Lucy

Breed: English Bulldog
Age: 7 yrs old
Story: Lucy came into my life 3 months after my family dog of 14 years passed away. I found a local breeder in town and when I went to see the 8 week old pups, I fell in love instantly. I was planning on getting a male but once I was introduced to the litter of four, I had to have the little female whose attitude could not be ignored! She was so playful and demanding of my attention that I could barely get to know any of the other pups. So technically, Lucy chose me!
Favorite activity: Swimming. Lucy is probably the first bulldog in history to love the water. Most endearing bad habit: She would rather play tug-of-war with the leash than actually walk! It is a constant battle that she wins more than half the time!
Favorite Good Dog Food Company Product: Trucker’s Mutt-loaf.
If Lucy could talk, what would she would say About Good Dog Food?: "Thank goodness for Trucker’s Mutt-loaf! It tastes delicious and stopped all my allergies."
New Cooking Show for Dogs!
Ian and I just posted the pilot for our new online series "Cooking for Canines." Check it out by visiting http://www.youtube.com/user/GoodDogFoodCoMay Pet of the Month: Morty
Breed: Bichon FriseAge: 5 months, born December 17th as a Sagittarian.
Story: We wanted a doggy but with our schedules, we did not think it would be complimentary to our lifestyles. So, we put up real pictures from a couple of Bichon Frise calendars instead. Each individual picture brought such joy everyday and became such a part of our lives that Morty became real before he even entered our lives. By the time our schedules cleared up we had already given fictitious Morty his own bedroom and found his own play friends, so we decided it was time to bring him home in the flesh, or fur rather. His mission is now to bring love and laughter into every life that crosses his path, and he's been fulfilling that mission daily!
Favorite activity: Chasing Mommy on the tennis court is tied with having his belly rubbed while hearing "Good Boy" in a falsetto C range pitch.
Most endearing bad habit: He is impossible to get dressed in the morning. The photo session for his Facebook picture was murderous and took forever (he is modeling his USC sweater in the photo above).
Favorite Good Dog Food products: Truckers Mutt-loaf!!
If Morty could speak, what would he say about Good Dog Food? I like picking out the green peas and lining them up in the pantry for the housekeeper to find! Despite the peas, however, I'm glad to be getting the good stuff and I know my parents care because they keep my food in the same place as theirs.
April Pet of the Month: Roo
Breed: Rottweiler
Age: 4
Story: We got Roo as a puppy, and she has really been a pretty delightful dog. We used to have trouble getting her into the car, so I began a strict regimen of taking Roo for a ride, then taking her through In 'n Out for a meat patty... Now she can't wait to jump into the hamburger machine!
Favorite activity: EATING
Most endearing bad habit: One of Roo's most charming tricks is to give hi-fives. Roo knows this, so when she's really focused on something, and can't be bothered to actually listen to the commands she's receiving, she'll air hi-five in your general direction, like, "Here, is this good enough? You love this. Now leave me alone."
Favorite Good Dog Food product: Trucker's Mutt-loaf (and any and all bones)
If Roo could talk, what would she say about Good Dog Food?
I like to think she'd say something articulate like, "Good Dog Food is absolutely delicious, and it has truly done wonders for my health," but perhaps, “mmnnmuttloafmuttloatmuttloafmoregimmemoremnnn..." would be more realistic.
March Pet of the Month: Emma
Breed: Papillon
Age: 7 ½
Story: I found my family right after I weaned my litter of four (yes, four). My Auntie Barb is friends with my breeder, and she knew I would be a perfect match with my family. I was 1 1/2 years old when I was adopted, but I did not have any more puppies. I am really happy here!
Favorite activity: I love spa days and playing with my bratty little sister Daisy Duke the Boston Terrier, but most of all, I love cuddling with my mom!
Most endearing bad habit: I have a "helicopter tail" when I am really happy (especially meal time) and whack my sister in the face with my tail. Other than that, I am pretty much perfect!
Favorite Good Dog Food product: Trucker’s Mutt-loaf
If Emma could talk, what would she say about Good Dog Food? It changed my life. I was so sick for so long. I had lost the joy in my life due to chronic illness. Everything I ate made me sick, even prescription food. I feel like a new "person". For the first time in my life, I look forward to meal time, and live without the worry of getting sick from my food!
February Pet of the Month: Remy
Breed(s): mixed
Age: about 6 ½
Story: Remy was found abandoned by a mailman in Bristol, Connecticut when she was just a little over a year old. She was skinny, dirty, and looking for love. She would follow the mailman on his route everyday, going with him from house to house. The mailman found her a home with Liz, a family member, who then moved with Remy to Las Vegas. Last year Remy became terribly sick, was vomiting and became so dehydrated she had to be admitted overnight at the animal hospital where she was put on an IV. She was having some allergy problems as well and was on a steroid. With some research her owner Liz stumbled upon Trucker’s Mutt-loaf. Remy has been addicted and healthy ever since! To read more about Remy’s story, visit the blog on our website.
Favorite activity: running circles in her yard like she’s a greyhound racer
Most endearing bad habit: Remy truly believes she is a lap dog despite being 75 lbs!! She climbs right up in your lap.
Favorite Good Dog Food product: Trucker’s Mutt-loaf
If Remy could talk, what would she say about Good Dog Food?: “I prefer Trucker’s Mutt-loaf any time over a double double from In N Out Burger!!”
Trip to Oregon
January 29, 2010
We made a trip to Oregon at the end of January to work on some new food and treat recipes. Starting in March, Duke's Buffalo stew and a new hypo-allergenic rabbit recipe will be available to our home delivery customers. We are also coming out with two new treat recipes made with elk and rabbit. These delicious treats made from unique meats will be in stores as soon as we finalize the packaging! Here is a picture of their newly renovated processing area and another of the new treats going into the dehydrator...

2nd Annual Halloween Howl
Halloween Howl is a fundraiser to benefit the Lied Animal Foundation, the largest sigle facility shelter in the United States. I recently joined the board of the Animal Foundation so I was very happy to take on the role as one of the event organizers. We raised over $12,000 for the shelter and had a fantastic time. Here I am with the executive director of the shelter, Christine.
Hallo-weiner
October 24, 2009
Hallo-weiner is the annual fundraiser for the Hot Diggity Dachsund Rescue Club of Las Vegas. This year it was held at Barkin Basin park and was our first year participating.
This little banana costume was fantastic! I need to get one for Milton to wear next year...
Name our new puppy contest!
September 2, 2009
We added a new member to our family on Sunday! He is just 10 weeks old and is half bulldog, half bassett hound, officially called a "bullhound". We fell in love with him instantly and were intrigued by his breed as we'd never seen one before. We found very limited information about bullhounds on the internet, and when we took him for a puppy check-up the vet and vet technician both said they had never in their entire careers seen one either! So far he's been the sweetest puppy, but can definitely hold his own against Trucker and Penelope. He's a real head turner and we can't take him anywhere without dog lovers coming up to get a closer look. Good thing he doesn't mind the attention at all!
*As of October 21st the naming we held is over. After nearly 2 months of being called "little dog" we finally picked a name that is perfect for him - Milton.
Pet Fashion Week in NY
August 22-23, 2009

I went to New York last weekend to check out the latest and greatest
in today's dog world, and because our company is featured in this
Fall's issue of Modern Dog, which was distributed at the show.
Visiting the Farms!
April 26, 2009Ian and I went to Oregon a few weeks ago to finalize the details of switching production to The Butcher Shop in Eagle Point. We were trly impressed with what we saw. Here are some pictures from the trip:

Tony B. and me at his ranch. Tony has been raising cattle for 70 years and prides himself on the cleanliness of his farm. All the cattle are fed the most nutrient and protein dense grass, have access to clean running water, and droppings are cleaned every day. They also have hundreds of acres to graze on. These things may seem like they should be industry standards but unfortunately they aren't, and cows raised on feedlots are not as lucky as Tony
Our Wedding
April 18, 2009
Here are some pictures of Trucker during our ceremony. He was such a Good Dog!

In the kitchen
Before Ian and I found our wonderful butcher, Cam, we made all the food ourselves. Here we are washing and chopping vegetables. Cam has state of the art equipment that makes this process go a lot faster!
